May 11, 2018 - South to North

We docked in Belfast, Northern Ireland this morning.  This was the second time Fe and I had been here (the first was in 2011), and like that time, this was sort of a stopover on a longer trip.

The excursion here was the Titanic Museum which is the star attraction in a redeveloped area of the port.  On the way there we saw where a lot of Game of Thrones is filmed--or at least what we could glimpse through the truck trailers and solid fencing they put up to keep outsiders from taking pictures. There were a lot of offices and apartments. They even made a hotel of the old offices where the Titanic was designed and built. I was impressed with the development.

The museum itself is a huge building with a lot of interactive and informative exhibits. Everyone knows the Titanic story, but this had a lot of details and artifacts.  After the museum, the bus took us around downtown Belfast where we saw some historic and cultural sites which made me want to see them again from a better vantage point than a bus window.  I suppose that was the point.  The only downside of this stop was the weather: it was rainy and very windy.

After eating lunch on board (and another nap--I'm getting up there), we left port at about 4:30 pm (local time).  Soon after this is when the ship hit relatively open water--and the rocking began.  Of course, I knew this would happen but remember that I'm a landlubber and it was a weird feeling.  It's not too bad, though I think Fe is a little more bothered by it.  Nobody got sick and the captain said that it should be a little calmer tomorrow.
